Kiyomizu-dera Temple in full bloom. A child sweeps under the cherry blossoms in full bloom and tells a traveling monk about the auspicious origins of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, which was founded by Tamuramaro Sakanoue. After telling him about the famous spots in the area and admiring the spring scenery of the capital, Doji disappears.
Soon, Maro Tamura appears in a brave battle appearance, goes to Suzuka Mountain in Ise Province to exterminate demons by imperial order, and reenacts how he achieved a great victory with the benefit of Senju Kannon. ….
One of Katsushura's three plays, this Shura Noh is filled with a celebratory atmosphere, depicting the exploits of Maro Tamura in a brave and cheerful manner.
Tsukuzukushi
Two men went out together to play in the fields in spring. One of them composes a song after seeing the budding clay brushes and peonies, but his friend points out the mistakes in the song and laughs at the strangeness of it.
The man gets angry after being made fun of and challenges him to a sumo match...
Ama
Fujiwara no Fusamae learned the secret of his birth, that his mother was an ama from Sanshu Shido no Ura. He is told by a local mariner that his mother sacrificed her own life to get back the jewel stolen by the dragon god in order to make her the successor to Lord Tamumi. Eventually, a dragon woman appears...
The highlights of this Noh performance include the first half, ``Tama no Dan'', which recreates the scene of an ama recovering the jewel, and the religious solemnity of the second half.
