Tachibai (Sword Robbery)

The master and Taro Kaja went to visit Kitano Shrine.

On the way, the master did not have his sword, so the Kaja approached a passerby with the intention of stealing his beautiful sword. However, he was threatened instead, and the master's precious small knife was stolen.

The Kaja ran back and decided to ambush the man together with the master to get the small knife back. When the man finally appeared, the master grabbed him from behind and ordered the Kaja to tie a rope around the man, but the Kaja began to weave the rope leisurely...

Nishikigi (Nishikigi)

In the village of Safu in Mutsu, a traveling monk meets a man and woman who seem to be a married couple. The man is holding a beautifully decorated branch, which he tells the monk is a nishikigi, a traditional custom used in this area since ancient times, where the man places a nishikigi at the gate of the house of the woman he loves, and the woman takes it into her house as a sign of her acceptance.

Another man once placed a nishikigi at the gate of a woman's house every day for three years, but the woman never took it in, and the man eventually died, still resenting her. The monk then leads the monk to the nishikizuka (nishiki mound) where the man was buried, and disappears.

Soon the spirits of the man and woman appear, and the man places a nishikigi against the gate as if to recreate the scene from long ago, and calls out to the woman inside the mound. The man expresses his resentment over his unrequited love, but in the end, he dances in joy, thanking the monk for the dedication of his soul...

This Noh play is based on the elegant custom of Nishikigi and depicts a love story between a man and a woman, complete with many waka poems.
