Six Jizo
A country bumpkin goes to the capital to build a temple and buy six Jizo statues to place in it. However, not knowing where to buy a Buddha statue, the country bumpkin decides to call out to a sculptor on the street. Then Suppa (a conman) appears and introduces himself as a sculptor. The country bumpkin believes him, and they promise to deliver the Buddha statue the next day, and then they part ways.
Now Suppa and his two friends disguise themselves as Buddha statues and plan to get the country bumpkin's money, but...
Jinen Koji
Unkoji Temple in Higashiyama, the capital. A girl appears in the garden of Jinen Koji's sermon and offers him a kosode. He learns that the girl sold herself to obtain the kosode as a memorial for her deceased parents.
A human trafficker then appears to take the girl back, and forcibly takes her away. The layman believes this is also for his Buddhist training, and hurries after the group to save the girl.
Catch-up with the human trafficker who has just set off in his boat on the shores of Lake Biwa, the layman throws back the kosode, dives into the lake, and clings to the boat to hold her back. The layman then demands the girl's release, but the human trafficker refuses, saying that it is the law of human traffickers to never return a purchase once made. However, the monk stays on the boat and shows no sign of being moved, which makes the merchant speechless, and he finally decides to return the girl. However, the merchant feels that it would be a pain to return the girl for free, so he forces the monk to perform a dance in order to at least torment him...
The lively exchanges and performances of the characters give a glimpse into the lively lives and customs of the common people of the time, making this an enjoyable Noh play.
