Noh Kiso
Before the battle with the Heike at Kurikara Pass, Kiso Yoshinaka (Tsure) sets up camp at Hanyu Hachiman accompanied by Kakumei (Shite) and Ikeda Jiro (Tsure). Yoshinaka listens to a report on the battle situation and orders Kakumei to write a petition to be submitted to Hachiman Shrine to pray for victory in the war. When Kakumei has finished writing the petition, he reads it out loud and dedicates it. Afterwards, a drinking party is held to celebrate the departure of the new family. As Kakumei is dancing, a turtledove flies in, expressing its acceptance of the petition, and everyone bows down and prays for the god's protection. Thus, Yoshinaka and his men safely win the battle against the Heike.
Noh play: Wandering Willow
As dusk approaches the Shirakawa Barrier, the wandering monk (waki), who is touring the country, meets an old man. The old man tells them about the old road that the previous wandering monk had taken, and leads them to the "Kuchiki no Yanagi" (Will of the Decaying Tree), where he tells them that Saigyo had composed a poem. He receives a prayer from the monk and disappears. That night, as the monk and his party are chanting prayers and taking a nap, the spirit of the old willow appears and expresses his gratitude, reminiscing about the past and telling them a story related to the willow, and performs a weak dance. When the monk and his companions awake, only an old willow tree stands there, feebly.
Noh: Sumida River
A mother (shite), whose child has been kidnapped by a human trafficker, comes to the Sumida River in Musashi Province and boards a boat. The woman expresses her feelings for her child, and the ferryman (waki) begins to recount an incident that occurred a year ago. It is a sad story about a boy named Umewakamaru who was bought by a human trafficker and died of an illness. The woman realizes that the boy is her son, and with the ferryman's guidance, she heads to the graveyard on the opposite bank and decides to chant a prayer for him. Then she hears Umewakamaru's voice, and the mother and child call out to each other, but when dawn breaks, she finds that only the child's grave remains there.
