Katsuragi

A woman invites a mountain ascetic who has been snowed in on Mount Katsuragi in Yamato Province into her hut and entertains him. She reveals to En no Gyoja that she is bound with vines and kudzu, asks the mountain ascetic to pray for her, and then disappears.

In the middle of the night, Katsuragi Myojin appears with vines and kudzu wrapped around his body. The woman from before was the incarnation of the god. The god thanks him for the prayer, dances in joy, and disappears back into the cave.

This Noh play depicts a goddess drowning in loneliness and anguish in the deep snow of Mount Katsuragi.

Honekawa

Shinpoi (a novice monk) is taught by the abbot the importance of treating his parishioners well. He lends the abbot's treasured umbrella to a man who comes to borrow it, and is scolded for making a good excuse to refuse in such a case. The next man who comes to borrow a horse...

Ikkaku Sennin, who lives in the remote mountains of Tenjiku, uses his supernatural powers to imprison the dragon god in a cave. The beautiful Lady Senda is sent to help him, and she captivates the hermit's heart with her charms and lures him into a drunken den...
