木場大輔胡弓リサイタル2024
overview
Kokyu, a bowed string instrument unique to Japan, has a long history, but it rarely becomes the main focus of a performance.
We planned this performance to inherit the tradition of kokyu while applying and innovating it and connecting it to the future.
"Chidori no Kyoku" is a kokyu original piece composed by Yoshizawa Kengyo in the mid-19th century. While it is familiar as a representative piece of the koto, it is rare to have the opportunity to hear it as a kokyu original piece. Please pay attention to the intricate intertwining of the kokyu and the koto.
In "New Work with Gogen and Shamisen," the world's only giant shamisen "Gogen," which has been handed down in the Kineya Sakichi family, is played with a double bass bow and used as a deep bass kokyu. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the release of Gogen, and by performing with Kineya Asakichi, the son of the current Kineya Sakichi, we will explore further possibilities while looking back at the origins of Gogen.
"Shochikubai" was composed by Mitsuhashi Koto at the end of the 18th century. It will be performed as a three-piece ensemble on the shamisen, koto, and kokyu. With a view to challenging the inheritance and development of the precise and sophisticated instrumental qualities of the kokyu, the entire piece will be newly arranged for the kokyu and premiered.
We look forward to seeing you there.
